Plumbers have an obvious incentive to make everything sound complicated. We prefer to be straight with you because a customer who trusts us calls back for the jobs that actually matter.

Genuinely do it yourself

  • A running toilet. Almost always the flapper or fill valve β€” inexpensive parts at any hardware store, replaceable in fifteen minutes with no special tools. Call and describe the symptom and we will tell you which part to buy.
  • Weak flow at one faucet. Unscrew the aerator at the spout tip, rinse the sediment out of the screen, reinstall. Two minutes, no tools.
  • A dead garbage disposal. Press the small red reset button on the underside. Thermal overload trips it routinely and this resolves a large share of disposal calls at zero cost.
  • A disposal that hums but will not turn. Cut power at the switch, then use the included hex key in the bottom socket to free the jam. Never put your hand in the chamber.
  • A single slow sink or tub drain. A plunger and a hand auger handle most of these. Skip the chemical drain cleaners β€” they rarely clear a real blockage and they make the line hazardous for whoever opens it next.
  • Insulating exposed crawl space pipes. Genuinely worth doing yourself before winter.

Judgment call

  • Replacing a shutoff valve or installing a toilet. Doable if you can reliably shut off your main and the flange underneath is sound. The problem is that you often cannot tell whether the flange is sound until the toilet is already off.
  • Flushing a water heater. Straightforward on a newer tank, riskier on an older one where the drain valve may not reseat.

Call somebody

  • Any gas work at all. Licensed-only in Arkansas. For appliance runs or suspect leaks, call for professional gas line repair and installation. The failure mode is fire or carbon monoxide rather than a wet floor.
  • Thawing a frozen pipe or fixing a split line. Torches and heat guns cause house fires, and uneven heating splits lines. For active winter leaks, request 24/7 burst pipe repair or plan ahead with seasonal pipe winterization.
  • A burst or split supply line. Shut off your main and call. Persistent leaks on older plumbing may require whole-house repiping.
  • Sewer main clearing or replacement. Biohazard, and it needs camera diagnosis rather than guesswork. Rely on high-pressure hydro-jetting drain cleaning or trenchless sewer line repair.
  • Slab leak location. Requires acoustic and thermal equipment. Learn how we pinpoint leaks with non-invasive water leak detection and overhead slab leak detection and repair.

The one thing we wish everyone would do

Find your main water shutoff valve, and actually turn it closed and open again. Valves that sit untouched for years frequently seize. The moment you discover that should not be at 2 AM with water pouring through a ceiling. It takes five minutes and changes the worst-case outcome of every plumbing emergency you will ever have.
